Script fics can be good, depending on the summary. Yomi: Hmm...I think what I mean is that ANY story, script or prose, can be good depending on the summary that is posted. After all, a summary is just supposed to tell what the story is about. When you read the fic, only then can you tell if the story has any substance or not. Am I right? The summary can be misleading at times, because it won't sound as interesting as the fic ACTUALLY is, but it's a good way to get a general idea of a fic and helps me to decide whether I want to read it or not. Does that help? Oh, and just so you know, I don't think I'm inferior to you or you to me. I simply assumed that you were older because your writing style seems very thorough and advanced. I suppose that happens from reading a lot, ne? ;D

Yomi: I forgot to add this one little opinion of mine. I don't believe that script fics are better than prose, or vice versa. The execution is up to the author and his/her writing style. POV is a topic that confuses me as well, so I'm not gonna get into that. However, the author should keep in mind that if writing in script (or prose, whatever) you want to make it as interesting as possible without confusing the reader. You should be able to get your point across as interestingly and easily as possible. (Please excuse my grammar right there. ;D)

My only objection is that people say script fics are good because it carries humor well.
I accept that.
But prose stories can be just as humorous, if not more.
So what is the point of script fics then if their strongest feature cannot compare with prose?
So how or where then is a script fic better than a story written in prose?

I don't think script fics could be any better than prose. Unless, of course, there is not much humor. But that's a difference in content, not writing style. ;D

Er... Hello...? Am I allowed to join in the discussion? I'm pretty new around here... Are you guys FF.net authors too? I read the first two pages of the thread, cursed my com, then jumped to the last page (here). I am now offically lost... I think script fics are perfectly fine, it's just that unlike prose fics, you don't get a surreal feel to them, like you're into the situation with the characters. It's feels more like a musical or a stage production. ( which might be rather confusing if the author's in a writing frenzy with peculiar comments butting in on all the characters here and there...) I admit that the script fics leave much to the imagination ( too much, personally), and I feel that the author should use more descriptors in conveying humour and etc... buuuut you gotta admit that they are rather spontaneous... (people jumping in out of nowhere... just imagine a stage where the characters jump in carrying otherworldly weaponry... ) Now to more important subjects... uh... how old are you guys? ... please please please don't get into an author to author bashing fray on me...please.... p.s. Can I read your fics?

Hello Madhatter. My friend's mother is nicknamed that.
Well, I'm not telling my age, and you're welcome to read my fic. Just be prepared for it to suck most majorly.
On to script fics again, are we? Okay then. Uh... That's what script fics are basically. Empty dialogue so the actors/readers can interpret it anyway they damn well please, which gets pretty annoying very quickly. Unless it's outstanding, but those don't come very often.
I haven't seen a script fic for so long. Prehaps it's because I don't have time to read much anymore.
Well, thanks for the quick chat.

;D i should have been introduced to ffnet much earlier. i've been missing out on so much, but it is a pain to sift through the not so decent stories.
what kind of not so decent stories?
scripts that are clearly not intended to be play scripts but just some lazy person who didn't go to enough troubles to write a real fic.
unlikeable 'self-inserts'. i hope that my friend's self insert won't fall under the unlikeable category, but most of them tend to be.
the list grows daily but i find treasures here and there.
cheers to ff.net

To Azile: Do you have any idea how right you are on the self-insertion topic? They tend to be really sucky. BUT, I have come across a few that are actually pretty good. Here's one: You're Not Alone by Leeta. It's in the IY section. She put herself in it, but the best part is that even though she's one of the major characters, her part is still sorta minor. She has a sequel out as well, so go read that too. I have something I like to call 'an indirect self-insertion' up: Beautiful Tiger: A Yahiko Myoujin Love Story, where my OC, Yukonata Sae, portrays me as what I wish to be, but not what I am, even though she looks like me with longer hair in a different style and she's a lot thinner compared to me. She and Yahiko are the main characters, while everyone else is kinda minor, yet still kinda major. Go read it and tell me what you think! www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1326902Oh yes, and like you I also find treasures in the trash on FFnet. To Anyone Who Cares: My birthday was on Tuesday, 9/16! It's kinda wierd to know that your birthday is 5 days after 9/11. May Allah let their souls rest in peace. (Yes people, I am a Muslim. A Muslim of the Shiite sect, a part of the Dawoodi Bohra community, which I am not going to explain because it's too complicated even for me.)I am now an official 15 YEAR OLD! WOO-HOO!

hey, I'm a newbie around here so.. well.. anyway, summary helps sometimes, but lots of people also sucks on summaries (myself included). So, I never really judge a fic from the summary, although it could be a waste of time of clicking the link <g> but, I agree that script writing had their weaknesses. It makes me bored just by looking at it, but once I found that fic is funny, I'll continue reading ^_^ but if it was meant to be a serious fic, I suggested to stay in the prose writing

Basically, self-insert sucks! I mean, really... no matter how good the author inserts themselves. I still don't like it oops, sorry for being too harsh, but yeah... I'm sure there are lots of people still reading them, so don't make me stop you guys <g> (like anyone would actually listen Anyway, to Silent Angel, I guess your going fasting this end of the month right?

hmm... self inserts every three lines.. i want to HIT the author... about script V prose: it all boils down to opinion. yes, i like prose fics, they're nice, liek short stories or books. but i also like script fics... script fics tend to have more slapstick humour, and they're quicker to read. with me, if i'm printing out fics, i need to read the first chappie to see if it's any good then maybe print it out, and it's hard to read the first chapter of a prose fic in five minutes. hm.. yes.... mmmm.. i'm too spaced to argue properly right now.

I mean, what does that tell us about their story?!

AAARGH...!!! Baka Pixie Kumiko got Satoshi for avatar ^___^ I LOVE Hiwatari for some reasons, *cough* let me see... he's cute, sexy. and damn good looking. Err, sorry for rambling...
Anyway... yeah... script fics are good.... sometimes, I said that if the fic is funny I prefer to continue, and I did this often, yeah?
About putting the CHAPTER 2 IS UP and sort of, I think it's fine as long as the author also gave the summaries. I never did that before though. The first thing I see in a summary is the pairing (yes, I am that shallow, guys...), so, summary better include that one too to catch my attention.
