Yea script fics are ok to me, it's good for writing humour. It expresses more than paragraph fics in my opinion.

I do agree script-type fics are kinda sloppy though. They are kinda fun and easy to read, but then there aren't as much effort put into them as long paragraphs, I think.

Very hormonal at the moment. No, probably not - I just sent you a pressie, hope you enjoy it coz it took forever If you do enjoy the attachment, I'm thinking that you won't have time to pick this up tomorrow. Lets just focus on more constructive stuff - I hope the critique is to your expectations. Yomi

hmm... well, that was a long argument on fantasy novels. couldn't join in coz i can't really relate. XD hehe. about Hermione being an MS. no offense to anyone but I kinda think that most, if not all, the characters in HP are... how do you say... made solely for the development of Harry (for lack of better term.) what i mean to say is, they only support the main character in order to give him dimension. (i tend to do this with my own original characters.) i'm not saying it's a completely bad thing. just pointing it out. and before anyone objects. yes, i am aware of the fact that it is a technique used in characterization. but then, what do i know? i agree with Yomi-san's opinion about script fics. but i do know scripts are much easier to use when writing humor. however, i do not agree that scripts expresses more than paragraph fics. it is a matter of how you write the paragraphs. scripts are only for those who are too lazy to take the challenge.

Also about Hermione being a MS - I don't really agree to that, because Hermione is not all that perfect. She's bossy, a bookworm.. I have to admit she's smart, but Harry is the main character in the book, and he does most of the heroic stuff. Hermione didn't contribute much in helping Harry fight the bad guys, except for being there for him, helping him out.
I think paragraph fics can be just as funny as script-type fics. It depends on how the author puts things, like Fibby-chan said. So, it all comes to the author - if he/she is a good writer, I think.

i would have to disagree with you on that one. i don't really think Harry does all the work himself. i'm sorry, but i have to point this out. without all those people supporting him, Harry would have been dead by now. let's face it. Harry only became 'hero' because there are those who consider him as such. i'm not bashing HP or anything. I mean, i liked it once myself. this is just something i noticed. most of the characters side with Harry (take Dumbledore for example.) or rather, they eventually do, in some cases. ^^;

however, i do not agree that scripts expresses more than paragraph fics. it is a matter of how you write the paragraphs. scripts are only for those who are too lazy to take the challenge. I second that opinion - it's because lazy bums use the excuse 'I think I can achieve more humor this way' that script fics were rife in ff.net months ago. No - their English was poor, their writing sucked, they had no plot therefore they thought script fics were cool. Hades is about to flame one Kurapicky soon - and the faster the better because we had a decent spell of non-script fics for a couple of weeks now. Ho hum. Are script fics funnier than prose written stories? From my personal experience, I've laughed the hardest from prose, but that doesn't mean that I haven't laughed from script fics. I also note that the script fics which I did laugh at tend to have brackets filled with long description of what the character was doing - i.e. description of movement. That being the case, I didn't understand why they just didn't just drop the brackets and patch it up into a proper sentence. Oh, but that's right - they're lazy bums. There was one YYH script fic which was very good - it was a parody of MacBeth - and it WAS supposed to be a SCRIPT (Shakespeare wrote plays, not stories) hence I was completely fine with that. Hunter fics like the ones that Kurapicky writes will no way in hell express more than a paragraph. That has to be the most absurd notion that I've ever heard - crap excuse for and from crappy writers. www.fanfiction.net/profile.php?userid=336308That's Kurapicky's profile - a 9 chapter story with only 2.5k words...that's just pathetic. Well, it's script, so how else can I describe it? Yomi

you know what... i barely even got to the second page. i despise script fics, especially when it is written in a genre other than humor. it is unforgivable bcoz the fic could have been written the proper way. what Yomi-san said about script fics... too true, too true. XD

Hm....I guess I'm just too lazy to read very long stories when I'm bored. ^^;;; It's becoz I'm really impatient sometimes when the plot is too slow, and they only add length through descriptions. Like I said, I want more interaction and dialogue!
Hehe, I guess I should learn how to read novels properly.......*sweatdrops* XD
But I know some that are really made for script types (plays, I think), and they are actually great. I hope I can find it again so I can show you guys. Anyone has an example? ;D

This is the one I'm talking about. I can't believe the page exists (yay!) I read it back when I was in highschool (loooong time ago dude...) www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/7409/machiei.htmThis is the parady of MacBeth by the YYH cast - it's called Mac Hiei. I've loved this author since...like...forever - she's changed her penname! Oh, I see, no wonder there doesn't seem to be a sign of her around. Anyhow - if anyone's a Karasu fan (pick me! Pick me!), she's also got another great Karasu fic on her page. Yomi

well..here's an example: someone: You idiot!!! *runs and bumps into wall* owwwwwww~~~~~ do it with paragraph: "You idiot!!" Someone yelled, he ran like a maniac and crashed into the wall painfully as he let out a painful wail "Owwww~~~" hmmm well both ways are good first one is easy to understand and humours as well. 2nd one is more detailed and maybe not so easy to understand for those people who just started learning English, but it's funny as well u know...I actually don't mind both EXCEPT!!! if someone writes a weird fic like a one I saw the other day...I don't want to point out who, but this is how it went: Summary: Leorio, Gon and Killua wants to 'hock' Kurapika up with someone. -_-ll I guess this author's first Language isn't English. and in this story everything is like someone: blah blah blah *action* and this MS suddenly comes up, you know what her name is??? A Beautiful-girl That is was her name when she was first introduced to the story ^^;; I don't think that fic is suppose to be humours, I just think this author is lazy. ahem... I talked to much, I'll shut up now ^^ maan it's like 11:24pm over here >< and I have to go to work tomorrow!! even though it's SUnday tomorrow!! opps off topics!! sorry! Anywayz Hmmm Hermione being a MS, I reckon she's ok a book worm and everything lol. Yes I agree with Fibby-san, all the characters seems to 'revolve' around Harry. Without them there would be no Harry. But without Harry those characters don't even exsist but I guess that's why the book is called "Harry Potter" and not "Hermione Granger" or "Ron Weasely" XD *yawns* I'm going to sleep now! nighty night

For sure her first language isn't English - but then again, lots of people have English as their second/third language. So English is a big part of the story, but also, the effort counts, too, ne? I mean, no matter how bad your English might be, if you try hard, you'll come up with something better.

someone: You idiot!!! *runs and bumps into wall* owwwwwww~~~~~
first one is easy to understand and humours as well.
Noooo....even if I were to attempt to write a fic in Chinese, I would still not resort to a script fic. Script fic like the above are mere notes - that's what you write before your proper draft, it's your plan like: I want someone to say this, then do that --> NOTES - that's all - don't give them more credit than they deserve.
And even though Chinese is my second language and considerably weaker than my English, I still wouldn't want to read a Chinese script fic. I've seen them and they suck too.
Yomi
PS - I didn't even find the above script example funny. You see, that's just how miserably BAD it is. It's the image (read: DETAIL[/u]) of someone running like a maniac which makes it funny. Obviously, the script fic couldn't convey that.
Um Yumiko - if you actually bothered to read my previous posts, you'll see that I have already named the author of your example AND provided the link to their bio. Thanks - it was nice to know that you took time to read my posts as I do yours.

Script-type fics are a lot easier to write, ne? I've seen some Jap. script-type fics, and if I haven't seen the anime, I can't really tell what kind of person the speaker is, which made the story unfunny.
