Okay peeps, Me and Lonely Soul are trying to start an anime club at school. Yeah, yeah, I know in an anime club you talk about anime/mangas, but...what else should we do? I'm trying to write a list of 'reasons to have an Anime Club', so hopefully it can get approved and started. I'm thinking about showing an anime or somethin' at almost every meeting (a short epi or movie, something like that), talk about some new anime/manga, have a few cosplay parties, manga fair, fanart contest, 'field trips' to nearby conventions (if there's any) and a bunch of other things. What do u guys think? I need some suggestions! I really want to get this thing started, so HELP us!

That sounds like an awesome idea! I should start something like that at my school since there are a lot of clubs and stuff..
Well maybe you can put up anime posters up or something? Or like just stick in some anime and jus put the tv in the middle of the hall.. it'll surely attract some attention =D

:oI should so do that. . I want to get it started asap. I plan to make a couple flyers w/some anime on it, inviting anime freaks to come to the mock meeting. If not enough people are interested .....well then I'll forget about doing the club. I'll just hafta enjoy anime for myself. I also need to get a sponsors, cuz there's some stupid rule about it. Heh..I should get my art to sponsor. I'll sure he'll llllllllllllluuuuuuvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv that. (Remeber he's the one who hates it. )

A few people tried to start an anime club a little while ago, but since no one joined it didn't work out. I hope your anime club works out better than ours did.

I hope so too! I'm just trying to get otakus together. I REALLY, really hope it works out. I know my friend is gonna get into it, cuz were making a manga together. And there's several peeps who I know love anime. If they don't want to join and the anime club doesn't work...well...screw them. I'm just trying to benefit them and get people to have fun w/anime.

Oooohhh what a fabulous idea! ^__^
My older sister actually joined an anime club in her university, and it was really successful. What some people did is they contributed all their anime into a little library, and anyone is free to borrow those anime if they agree to join the club and contribute. There were also lots of anime contest such as trivia or fanfic contest, and they always show anime in the theatres at the school.
Hopefully those were good ideas ^__^

Our uni anime club is pretty big - they've got a big selection of anime to borrow from as well. Half of them are donations and don't tell the studios that they're all burned - I suspect that they regularly harvest more anime and episodes into their collection through patrons, members, and possibly off the net (leeching anyone ). Is anime big over where you live Elysium? Anime is gradually starting to catch on (about time too!) but they show really stupid stuff like *Beyblade* for goodness sakes. They used to show DBZ, but stuffed it up with the voice overs and Sailor moon as well. As for screenings - try to get anime with subtitles and not dubs. There are some REALLY good subs (usually done by fans) and you can get THE MOST HIDEOUS translations which make your skin crawl. Our uni has two screening sessions in a huge lecture theatre each week - each session is about an hour long, so three episodes. Screening, borrowing and the occassional marathon screning (e.g. start watching anime at 9am and finish at 5pm) during the holidays and arrange small discounts at anime/merchandise stores if you're a member (got to pay a small membership fee of course). To attract people to screenings, try to entice people with free food. Stick the tv in an area where a lot of people can see it. Get members to stand in front of the tv like statues - that usually attracts a LOT of attention. Never had the fanfic contest - that would be a good idea though. Yomi

Wow!! The club in your Uni sounds really cool, Yomi-san!! Do you have to pay a membership fee or something?

Yeah, membership fee of $5 - and just a few events each year (around four of five).
Our Uni is big, so there are bound to be more people who know and enjoy anime. I'm surprised there's quite a big handful of westerners, but most of them are still asian.
If you want a successful club going - ask for anime contributions - burn CDs, label them, put them in a table and let people sign up for borrowing. That's usually a good way to get people interested.

:'(Well...our anime club idea fell through. As always. I have so many things to do...and I've been under complete stress. I still really want to try it, but I just never seem to have the time. but thanks for everyone's ideas , maybe next semester I'll try something, but my courses are going to be even hareder(calculus, spanish III, anatomy/physiology, and english IV). Next semester would be my last try at somethingin high school, considering that I graduate this year. -_- Hopefully LS will help out too.

You guys have to have SOMETHING that would grab EVERYONE'S attention. Yomi-san's idea (burn CD's) sounds cool. We have our own box of anime music (usually used to plays and recordings), and the CD's and tapes always get passed around.
You guys have a room or two to yourselves for the anime-showing and meetings?
Anime's pretty popular here, but fanfiction's our forte. Especially in Harry Potter *sigh*. Yaoi forever! XD
