You'd think I'd know tons since my family is buddhist.... but I do however, have a book on it. I wanted to know more about it, and so I borrowed one of my aunt's reference books. Buddhism is the principle of being an entity who is in harmony and peace with their surroundings, as well as the people. In short, a person who is one with the universe. As simple as it sounds, it's really not as easy as they make it look . There's also another principle that a being always suffers, and only by submersing ourselves into some sort hypnotic state by meditating, can we escape the pain of this world. And there are no gods in the religion, just enlightened beings. ANd shintoism... I don't know a thing about. XD

whoa..i didn't even see this topic XD XD XD Are you sure there are no gods in Buddhism? From what i hear, i think buddha is worshipped though, and the same with...err...i only know her chinese name (Goon Yum Po Sak...hahaha). And there are a gazillion of other gods up there...there's like a whole kingdom in the sky or something, and life and death are moderated by each separate 'gods' from heaven and hell. well, i see this all on tv *bows to Journey to the West*

They're not *gods* though. They're enlightened beings that do alot of things like gods. *blows rasberry*
But they do pretty much seem to function the same. XD

Hehe that's not the real Buddah that's actually another female buddah, she carries a bottle thing with her which heals people. Buddha is "A mi to fo"
Moo I'm Buddhist but I'm not very religious... no Buddah is not a god. He's more of a teacher kinda... ^^; oh well I don't know much about Buddhism but no offence... I'd rather be a Buddhist than a Christian.

Same here. I'm atheist though, but Buddhism seems to imply alot more freedom for independent thinking.

Buddha is "A mi to fo" Haha yea, she sits on this flower and her bottle with a little plant is like, holy blessing?? We need real buddhists here to give us the proper terms HAHAHA! Oh, i thought A mi to fo is what they say as a chanting? Isn't buddha called something "Fut Joe"? And he's actually in Indian prince or something...la la la! I'm athiest too! I just know this stuff because i watch a lot of tv that has mythology and all that stuff, so i learn a little

Well I've finally gotten on the internet after about 2 weeks (this is what i hate about summer vacation) anyway. what i've read has been helpful i still don't know what religion is right for me. So hopefully after I finish my basic training i'll end my spiritual quest.

Wow, a spiritual quest sounds so abstract! Sounds like an anime character XD (lol, don't mind me ^^;; )
I hope you can find your religion too, but i don't think you should try too hard though. There's so much out there, i think it's quite hard to find one that would suit yourself perfectly because i don't think any religion can ever fulfill all your inner and emotional needs. Well, maybe partly fulfill...but still, sometimes it's just best to stay atheist because, in my perspective, religion is sorta like a commitment.
Well, or be silly like me and create my own religion XD XD (chibi-ism O.o )

Well one of the main problems i have right now is that during my last semester of high school i took philosophy at the local collage and i don't know how long it will take me to get out of that mind set.

I think having a philosophical mind-set isn't a bad thing. Too many people wander around in their life-times, simply telling themselves "That's just the way things are," without fully understanding what happened, and why. It's like running around with paper-toilet tubes taped to your eyes, as they never look around or inside each other.

That was a very strange analogy calliston. It could just be your perception but i didn't mean to say it was bad. Just that philosophy makes beliving in a religion hard because i begin to question and nitpick at things like in the bible killing is wrong but an eye for an eye. so it just makes it somewhat difficult.
