Firstly, I have a question for you all:
Why is it that the adjective 'different' comes with the implications of an insult?
Just to make a few things clear:
1. I am not accusing you of thinking like this, I would just like some opinions as why you think people do.
2. If you don't agree with this, FANTASTIC! Please tell me why you don't. I'm not going to get outragiously angry (hopefully).
3. Help me out, please. I'm interested. Even if you think you're opinion is a little stupid, share it anyway. No opinion is stupid.

Being different should be considered anything but an insult.. the only time I insult people who are different is if they're different cause it's a cool thing to do be different cause you are not because you want to fit in the different crowd

Yes, that's all very well and good. I aggree. But, I want to know why you think that 'Different' HAS become an insult. There is no use saying that it shouldn't be; It has, and I'm interested to know why.

It has become an insult because to say one is different is to imply they do not fit in, and they do not belong. Society has evolved so that it has become a bit of a step-rung ladder. If anybody has noticed, society is demanding a higher calibre of its deemed perfection. In this aspect then, differences are ailments which make it so that you are not a part of that said society, and then you are less than perfect. A total lie, we know, but I think that's the way it works. Or atleast, that's how I see it working.

haha... If being different is considered to be insulting, then does that make everyone insulted because we are all different? Basically, everyone's not the same...some people can accept the fact that they are phyiscally or mentalllly. I guess it depends how emotional the person is when they are being labeled as different...i think it's more of a compliment rather than an insult. ^_^

Calliston: Thank you very much. I like your answer muchly (probably because it coresponds vaguely to mine ) Chibiwonton: To a certain degree, yes, we are all different. However, there are certain degrees of difference. For example, Buying a pink and blue shirt at Supree instead of the ordinary pink and brown, to not shopping at supree at all. (Lowsy example I know, but I am so sick of that damn shirt.) I agree, it SHOULD be considered more of a compliment then an insult. However, if someone were to say it to me, they would expect me to be insulted and get disapointed whenI just thank them sincerely. Do any of you know any uhhh... popular people, preps that I could ask. Intelligent people's answers are great but I need to ask someone on the opposing side.

this has bothered me since i am considered "A Freak". It never bothered me because i like being different. I dont blend in and there fore people notice me. People call it an insult because they had one idea lodged into their heads and they cant accept anything different. They are stubborn humans who are programmed not to accept change or idividuality. If you notice, the "popular" people in school were all the same. Thye look, acted and talked the same. Also...THEY ARE ALL IDIOTS! Well the "different" people are all nice. Oh well, being different gave me something to talk about in my Frankenstein report.

*pats pats* it's always hard to accept the fact how people are so ignorant. I guess the best way to deal with this is to be content with yourself...not everyone out there thinks being different is an insult (like me!) hope it's not too hard on you, just let the idiots burn XD
