I notice that a lot of people seem to think they're ugly on the board. I posted this because I was just curious about how people feel about themselves. Lots of people seem to have low self esteem. I don't know why I bothered to start this.

Well, it kinda depends on the people. Sometimes I get REALLY stuck-up (especially on my drawings, but then again, all ppl have pride within them, especially in the things they love/are good at), or sometimes my confidence plummet to negative ;D Now, BOTH of them are bad. It's good to have pride but not to the point that it will eat up yourself, or having none of it and being blocked by your own insecurity. I try to be halfway, but so far, it doesn't work I'll keep trying though. And Ookami-san, I think it's a neat idea for you to bring this subject up, since it circulates practically every one of us. Generally, right? ;D How about other ppl?

My self esteem can get really bad. I think about it alot. Ussually, it stems from wondering why the hell I'm here, that sort of thing. Or from people at school treating me like dirt. Either of them. I think I'm ugly, but I don't really mind. I mean, I'm not terribly bad looking, and I have to wish to get a husband/boyfriend, nor get raped because I'm good looking, so what does it matter?
Thing is, it's so commercialized today. You turn on TV and see the people looking beautiful and you think "Why don't I look like that?"
On the subject of TV, don't you hate it when people in, say, Neighbours pick on the 'geek'. I swear, that's where most of MY problems stem from.

Yeah. Stupid preppies. I mean every time I walk by they point at me and say 'There's a fat one' or something like that. They don't even know me! Sure I may have weight problems, but they're none of their concern! I really hate the cheerleaders. They mocked me right in my face because they thought my *ahem* chest was too small! At least I didn't get implants, unlike some people, not that I want to be a slut like them. Brainless preps! Principal won't do anything about it either, even when it gets really, really bad like when they vandalize and steal my stuff, and push me and shove me around and stuff. I think he's even worse than they are.

whoa...the preppies really get that bad? i still believe in the old saying that appearance isn't everything and it's the inner beauty that counts.
but anyways, my self esteem varies. i do agree i am always proud of myself when i look in the mirror. i don't see myself as overweight or underweight, but just perfectly healthy size, and there's no need for me to change my image for anybody no matter what they say. and also, i don't think i look exceptionally pretty or anything, i'm satisfied with my looks and i don't need extra make up or any facial mask to doll myself up. sometimes i believe i get pretty cocky when it comes to my strengths, but then that's because i'm damn proud about myself. but some things that gets my self esteem low is when some people don't appreciate me and they do whatever they can to criticize me and make me as embarrassed as possible. i'm sort of embarrassed to confess this myself, but i believe that i want to be superior! (man that really sounded cocky) and whenever i feel defeated and beaten, i find myself depressed for the rest of the day. i just naturally act that way, even though i tell myself zillions of times that life is not a competition, but i still have the urge to compete to the fullest. this is probably one of the reasons why i think i've became failure in school.
haha, now what i've just wrote makes me think that i'm a cocky 'high-self esteem' biatch!

i lack self esteem. yes i've heard it time and time again, and calli's bashing on my head when I diss myself but yes, I'm never comfortable with myself. Maybe not with the entirity of it, but jus the small things.
but then in today's world, people aren't helping are they? they try to implant in your minds the perfect being. I can sometimes just turn away and go pish.. and say screw it. But I'm just a very conscious person, I can't just let things go like that.

hmm well as much as I like this subject I really have to say I don't let myself get depressed about anything. I don't think I'm good looking but I don't thrive on anything like that. If I don't get a friend/girlfriend(even though there has to be a bit of physical attraction in a relationship) based on my looks then they're the ones with the problem. If people insult me then meh I just insult them back or shrug it off cause it doesn't matter what they think. I try hard not to get cocky when I'm doing good/am good at something though since I'm not a big fan of cocky people

hmm... just want to share... big breasts is not really an "in" thing here in my country, although naturally, some perverted guys like seeing stuff like that. >_<; actually, it's kinda dangerous to have big goodies here. The Philippines can be a very dangerous country, and almost always, criminals (or rapists, in this case) do not get caught. >_< about self esteem. heck, i'm depressed all the time! but not only bcoz i feel bad about myself. to be honest, i can be pretty cocky... but i never let it show (at least, i make it a point that it doesn't show... ^^ i'm proud of all my achievements, but since something always goes wrong, my ego gets deflated. which is good. you know... for balance. ;D

get really depressed sometimes. What really annoys me though, is that I'll mope around for days and nobody really cares. You know, if you're feeling sad, you'd like someone to care. IT takes me bursting into tears for my parents to notice, and to stop talking alot that my friends notice.
Of course, that's probably influenced by my depression, but oh well.
It's awful (I think, anyway) that people don't take depression seriously. You tell someone you're depressed, yet they don't try to help you or anything.
Oh well.

Psyciatrists are hired directly by the government, to try and diminish the rebelling thoughts and actions of the general population. That's why I'll never see one.

I wouldn't exactly say i'm the ugliest, people say I got big eyes, and I got a beauty spot on my right cheek...it stands out <<= doesn't mean I'm pretty!! ^^ll BUT!! I HATE my hair!! it's like those anime hair...they just stick out!!!! no matter how much staright-cream I put on it doesn't work!!! ^^;; well I'm quite proud of my drawings espeacially manga drawings, and I'm pretty good with normal sketches and water colour. I got a pretty good singing voice ^^;; and I'm proud that I can speak 3 languages fluently and know how to play 2 instruments with good skills (need to work on scales) I beat up boys quite easily ^^;; I kicked my jap friend once...she's black-belt in karate ^^;; I kno I sound a really stuck-up ^^;; but that's what i think of myself others might not.... but in school I'm considered in the 'un-cool' group... because most of my friends are 'smart'

oh yea and also, yumiko-chan, i want to ask if it really matters whether you're cool or not? it's only people's opinion that judges how cool you are, and i know that everyone has been considered 'cool' by someone else before.
