I know exactly what you mean. I was reading a fic on FF.Net that was okay (in my opinion anyway), so for some reason I decided to see what kinds of reviews people gave it. Most of them were just vague praises like, 'Great stuff. Please continue.' But one caught my attention. It was at lease one thousand words long, and it pointed out every little flaw in the fic from small grammeretical errors to things that happened in the fic that they didn't like. Sure it wasn't an excellent fic, and constructive criticism is okay, and often helps the writer improve their work, but to criticise every little thing and then end it off with 'Your fic is crap.' is just mean.

I agree. However, what I think is completely ridiculous are flamers who make huge grammatical errors themselves, then critisize another person for shitty writing.

I hate flames and flamers too >_< I got so many when I started writing I didn't know what to do.... so I deleted the story altogether.... *sigh* I don't think those flamers know how to write at all.... and there are people registering just to post up flames, and since they're signed, they can't be deleted! God I hate them so much.... >_< good thing there were at least one person who'd encouraged me

i've read your flaming situation in the hxh fanfiction, yumi, and i think that flamer girl is absolutely ridiculous. she makes herself think that flamers are always right on their opinions, and she didn't leave room for people to tell her how wrong it is to flame!

What I hate is when someone flames a brillient story, you know? I can't remember whose story it was, but it was h*ll good, and the author got this huge flame saying how much it sucked because it wasn't what the flamer wanted to happen. Hang on, I'll see if I can find it again...
Nope. But I found this one:
Ewww.
Why do people keep crossing over CCS and Harry Potter.
Stop it. You suck.
I HATE that. It's like... going into the Matrix section and telling people they suck for writting T/N fics. Completely unreasonable.

I remember a really bad flame.... totally unreasonable and bad, as in really bad it was on kitsune (kura)'s fanfic and all it had was 'F*** YOU' in capital letters when will those flamers realize how meaningless flaming is?

i remember this one person who just runs around listing ONLY the bad points of a story. and then after listing it, they will criticize it so bad that it makes a certain story sound worse than trash. now it's those type of flamers that pisses me off!

I know! I just hate it when the flamers are actually having fun criticizing other people's work and annoying them.... and flamers sometimes (usually) hurt other people's feelings really badly

Flamers really bother me. They say your fic is bad, but they rarely have a (good) reason to think so. If a fic has a pairing they hate they just shouldn't read it. If they really think a fic is that bad they could tell them how to improve their writing, not simply write: 'U'r writeing sux! Gettof FF.NET!!!! Oh an' yeah... F$^% OFF!!! U sux s^&t' Constructive criticizm is much better than flames because it actually helps the writing improve their writing.

I agree with you.... some people might see criticizm as flames, tho, since some people just don't like being criticized. But yeah, if they state which part they can improve in, it's big help, so only if flamers could be thoughtful enough to do that....

But yeah, if they state which part they can improve in, it's big help, so only if flamers could be thoughtful enough to do that.... i'm actually the type of person that see most criticism as flames...but if someone cannot take criticism at all, then they won't be able to improve or proceed any further at all. If someone is criticizing, that means that they can see a specific point where you would need improving, and they should take that into consideration and improve it. That'll shut up those flamers for sure. also, i think a flame and criticism is very different. Flames talk complete nonsense while criticism is very useful sometimes. If someone actually took the time to criticize you work, that means that they also took the time to read it. If they could read it to the end, that means it can't be any worse than what they think. Generally, i believe if someone wants to criticize, they should do it in a more 'friendly' way. using a whole bunch of swears and useless words to sink other people's confidence is not the point of reviewing at all.
