Hm...one very complicated thread indeed... ;D I always change my view on life, but here are some I remembered: "You live to know your purpose." "You live to find out the Truth in all things." "You live to change the order of existence." "You live for the people you love." "You live to know the meaning of Life." "You live to set the order of time." If I explain this one by one it would fill up about 8 pages...so pls bear with this stupid quotes... PS The fourth one is actually from Kenshin... ;D

The meaning of life.
This may sound stupid, but I think I know what it is. At least, I think I do when I get depressed and start to beilieve it.
It's to reproduce.
I would say, "To change the world" or to "Live life to the fullest" and things like that. But, if that were true, then a lot of people have no meaning.
How many people change the world? Only about a hundred activly change the world as a whole to the billions that just live.
Living life to the fullest. What a joke. If people were living thier lives to the fullest, they wouldn't be running and hiding from war, in fear, depressed, suicidal, the list goes on. The only person who I can name that's living their life to the fullest is George Bush, who seems to interpret "Living life to the full" as "Blow as many things up before you get kicked out of office." Democracy sucks.
If either of these were the meaning of life, then probably only 10% of people (if that) had any meaning in their lives. Sure, other people are happy with their lives, but they don't impact the world.
To quote Lain, "If you aren't remembered, then you never acctually existed."

wow... but really good explainations... but life is what you make out of it... you might not change the world or what not but its how you live it.

the meaning of life is to live with a balance of good and bad, good and evil, poor and rich...well that's what I think! ;D

I dunno....I don't think we wouldn't know why we exactly are here. If we do, then life wouldn't that complicated and exciting. The way Silva Sun said it, I think ppl do those things (suicidal etc) as a way on how they take life. Like committing suicide meant they think they have no purpose in life. Ppl have different views after all. That makes life interesting...and downright irritating to understand ;D
Garnet-san's explanation is really deep *nods* Just have an inkling: how come we aren't equal? I mean, there are very good ppl out there with potential but have no success in life, while those who are so darn rich take no action at all?? Man, can I say life sucks? ;D

life does suck at times... but its how you survive through the rough times and cherish the wonderful moments... you only live once, regardless the journey, its still worth living for.

I've found that, once you start thinking about the meaning of life, you start thinking about life after death. How many different presumptions have been taken? The Egyptions, The greeks, christians, Buddusts, we, they, all have different views on what happens when we depart this life.
I'm Cathlic, though only because the rest of my family is. I'm more of an athesist, which means I don't believe in any religions, or anything. I like it. I don't pressure my brain to believe something it can't.
But it, in itself, presents many problems. Such as what to do in the world, and what's going to happen after.
I know more then a few people are going to get annoyed at this, but the human race is split by religion. How many wars have been fought over it? And for what? There is no real dominent religion, and if there were, there'd be people to oppose it.
So what happens when we do die? We can't all be right, can we? We're not going to arrive at the pearly gates, and have our hearts measured against a feather, are we?
I half believe in recarnation, although for some of us, me at the moment, it's a depressing thought. After this life, I have another and another to live.
Or do I?
It comes down to what you believe, which is why arguments, fights, wars over religion are so pointless. Who's to say who's right? Will God, one day in the future, when the catholic church decides to start a war, Point a finger out from the sky, tell us that fighting over him is all very flattering, and then tell us that Christianity is the right religion? What would happen to the Muslims? And the Buddists? Would our dominent human instincts for power take over, and make them less equal to us?
How is that just?
How is that living with purpose?
(Sorry for the rant but, God! Did that feel good!)
(Yes. That was intended)

*BOING* Sorry to come in without any real indication that I'm actually on this board.
Anyway...
life.
I'm Christian, so I believe that life sorta goes with the Adam and Eve story. They took the apple and ate it when God told them not to.
Therefore, we couldn't live in paradise. So, instead we were transfered to another world(this world).
Our world has good and bad in it, a balence..sorta. Not for all people.
Anyway, God has given us the choice to obey him, promise not to do anything he tells us not to, and then we go to heaven. So, life is sorta a way to prove yourself to god. I mean, some people won't go to heaven...some will.
For life, you should be happy. You shouldn't live in depression. Be hyper and happy. No matter how you are treated, you always have somewhere to go. There's a whole world out there.

Wow! I thought I was the only Christian on this board. I've sort of been raised as one, though due to many personal experiences I've hung on to my religion despite what others say ie. my biology teacher Anyway, I agree with Sora's theory of the meaning of life, though that should be fairly obvious.

I'm christian, though I feel to oppressed if I 'cling' to my religion. God may be there, but you have to live like she isn't so as not to dwell on things that can never be solved. You should try to dwell on more down to earth Philosophy! ^_^

Hey Sora, Christianity is the largest religion out there. Statistically speaking that is.
I think that those special people, those 'live-your-life-until-blood-spurs-out-of-your-ears-from-exertion', are all at the end of a line. I agree, A point of living is to reproduce. So, what if you produce the next world leader? It's not about what people are now, and what they 'think' they'll become. I believe, with all my heart, there is more than a single reason for anything, and that if you were to take an important person (say, George Bush) then I bet you, anything I own, there was somebody behind him who was 'ordinary'.
But still, why should we care what the reason we were here for? Let's just... give it all we've got. In the name of Confucious, "Where ever you go, go with all your heart."
